Subject: GM TSR? / SB201 won't load
Reply-To: chrispy@aztec.inre.asu.edu

Hello everybody,
Please forgive me if these topics have been covered already, I
just got Internet access and am new to this list. 1) I have been told that
there is a TSR that will allow the Aria to emulate General Midi music in
some games. Is this true, and if so where can I get it? I have been on
the phone with the tech support and/or customer support departments at
Diamond, Sierra Semiconductor, and Prometheus (actually, it was rather nice
of Prometheus to try to help me with my problem considering my card was
made by Diamond) and none of these people seem to know much of
anything. However, I have talked with several people in the Intelec
network's Sound Cards conference who say they worked for various
testing companies and actually used this TSR while testing some of the Aria-
based cards, although they do not know whether it was ever released to
the public. I am hoping someone here can give me a straight answer on this
matter. 2) I cannot load the SB201.COM that I downloaded from Prometheus'
BBS; it is the 2.01 beta version. When I try to run this, it says
ERROR: Aria board version not supported. I don't know if this means I
can't use it because I have a Diamond Sonic Sound, because of the
version of the Aria chip on the board, or what. I have an original Diamond
Sonic Sound (the board with jumpers on it), it has DSP v1.00 and ROM v1.60
on it, and the SB199.COM that I downloaded from Diamond's BBS works great
with it (at least, all the sounds are present and correct in Nova Logic's
Comanche: Maximum Overkill, which they weren't without the SB199). If
someone could tell me why the SB201.COM won't work with my card and if
there's anything I can do about it, I would be very grateful. Thanks.
